Happy February 1st…

CAS-ual Fridays SKETCH by kimba7669

Hello all-

I know it’s been a long time now that I haven’t posted but please know that I missed you all. Let me ask you this: Has this ever happened to you?

When I first started crafting, my first love was Scrapbooking. I was home when I just had my son, and I happened to have turned to a show where I first laid eyes on a woman by the name of Sandi Genovese. She would show the folks at home how to preserve the memories that we captured from taking pictures of our family, friends, special events and the like. That was also the first time I laid eyes on that BIG, RED SIZZIX Die Cutting Machine and right then ad there….I KNEW, I had to have it. I instantly fell in love with all the dies that went along. As time passed, I eventually got into card making and I fell in love with that as well. In the beginning, I would just make cards for the hell of it. I LOVE doing them. I didn’t care about TOO MANY embellishments, or the SCALE of the items on the card, or whether it was CAS (Clean and Simple)…I just wanted to make cards. Somewhere, along the way, I have lost that “just for he hell of it” kinda attitude. Creating cards is now soooo competitive. There are challenges and contest and the like that seem to be everywhere and all the time. Now, please understand….I LOVE CHALLENGES & CONTEST, but for ME, and ME ONLY, I seemed to have lost my way in that I stopped making cards for the sheer joy of it and rather to try to win. With that being said, there is a certain amount of pressure that goes into making a card when the pleasure of it is taken away. I realized that and that is why I really need to step back and take a break from it all. This time away was good for me because it allowed me to remember the WHY I love to create cards. It also allowed me to see how I let my love for scrapbooking go out the window. I have decided that I will get back to scrapbooking and I will continue to enter contest and challenges because I think that these are great in that they inspire me and challenge me to think outside my comfort zone. But what will be different is my attitude when I create – NO pressure – NO stress – Just the love of creating something with my hands.

So, has this ever happened to you before? I would love to hear if it has and what you did to differently to get back to the way you were in the beginning. I created this card for a challenge but I went at it very differently. I waited til the very last-minute (this is soooo NOT how I operate-so know that this is so out of character for me) and decided that I would spend 15 minutes on the card – no more, no less and this is the end product. I really like the wy it came out and if this is any inclination to how I will be creating from now on….WATCH OUT!…LOL!

Okay…I am officially OFF the soap box. Thanks for listening to my ramblings and for allowing me to vent a little….and most importantly…thanks so much for stopping by!

Kimberley 🙂
